Education for Sustainable Development in Africa

Website:
http://isp.unu.edu/research/esda/index.html
Area / Region:
Africa
Description:

The ESDA aims to develop and test a graduate-level education programme for professionals to be engaged in sustainable development in Africa.

Activities:
The principal aim of this project is to promote education for sustainable development in African countries through training at the graduate school level of professionals who may serve as planners, organizers, instructors, field development agents and practitioners for sustainable development in these countries. The focus on the advanced higher education level of ESD is deliberate, since the programme aims to multiply its effects through "train-the trainers" capacity development for sustainability. The training would be provided through an international structure to be organized by UNU in cooperation with African and Japanese universities so that the participants would be exposed not only to national or local sustainable development contexts but also to the international dimensions of sustainability.
