The Resilience Research School offers PhD courses, seminar series and workshops to students who want to enhance their knowledge on resilience in social-ecological systems.The school will contribute building the next generation of transdisciplinary thinkers and doers on social-ecological resilience and sustainable development.The training provided by the research school includes understanding of ecosystem dynamics as well as management, multilevel governance, and the capacity of interdependent social and ecological systems to adapt to and transform in the face of change. These are all characteristics of resilience in social-ecological systems.The Resilience Research School offers a few PhD courses on a regular basis as well as a collection of ad hoc courses.

Description:

Stockholm Resilience Centre runs one current Master's programme and two previous programmes. The current 2-year Master's Programme in Social-Ecological Resilience for Sustainable Development trains students to conduct problem-driven transdisciplinary environmental research. The four mandatory courses are designed with an emphasis on resilience - the ability to deal with change and continue to develop. Students will be introduced to multiple research approaches and methods for studying coupled social and ecological systems. The programme focuses on using systems based methods to develop new approaches to the governance and management of social-ecological systems.

Stockholm Resilience Centre advances research on the governance of social-ecological systems with a special emphasis on resilience - the ability to deal with change and continue to develop. 

Activities:
The centre is a joint initiative between Stockholm University, the Stockholm Environment Institute and the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics at The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. The centre is funded by the Foundation for Strategic Environmental Research, Mistra.The Centre for Transdisciplinary Environmental Research (CTM) at Stockholm University and The Baltic Nest Institute (former MARE) are also part of the Stockholm Resilience Centre.The FORMAS-provided project Resilience and Sustainability: Integrated Research on Social-Ecological Systems, is an acknowledgement of Stockholm Resilience Centre also being a Swedish Centre of Excellence.
